ESU art exhibit

The ESU Department of Art will feature an “Engraving Invitational Portfolio, with an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 20 in Bruder Theater lobby. This exhibit consists of 25 artists from all over the country exhibiting their work in the Eppink Gallery. The purpose of the exchange is to celebrate the technique of engraving in printmaking. The curators for this exchange are ESU assistant professor James Ehlers and associate professor Gerry Wubben and Larry Schuh, both of McNeese State University.

Senior exhibition

The ESU spring 2009 Senior exhibitions include works by ESU art students Casi Jo Graves, Tanner Clark, Patrick Rush, Christine Weare, Megan Stelljes and Michael Bateman.

Youthville show

A traveling exhibit showing at First United Methodist Church, 823 Merchant St., uses shoes as the medium for children in Youthville’s Psychiatric Residential Treatment program to express their stories and tell about themselves. The exhibit opened Wednesday and will be on display until Jan. 27.

The residential treatment facilities are for children ages 10 to 18 who need time away to address issues and remove barriers to becoming a family again, according to a news release.

Wichita show

“Frida Kahlo, Through the Lens of Nickolas Muray” is the exhibition through February 1 at the Wichita Art Museum. Approximately 50 photographic portraits taken of Kahlo, dating from 1937 to 1941, “explores Muray’s unique perspective of her as a friend, lover and confidant,” stated the museum bulletin. At 7:30 p.m. Thursday, retired Stanford University professor, author and art scholar Wanda Corn will present “Frida Kahlo Up Close and Personal: An Art Historical Tour of Kahlo’s Studio, Bedroom and Closet.” The lecture is free and open to the public. There will be a dinner at 5:30 p.m., for which there is a fee. For dinner reservations, call (316) 268-4921.
