James Williams has been named Emporia State University’s associate provost for enrollment management and vice president for strategic partnerships, effective Monday, Jan. 12. He will be in charge of activities to attract and retain students.
The move is in concert with a plan laid out by Michael R. Lane, ESU president, to designate one person responsible for enrollment management activities.
“Jim has assumed much of that job during the past four or five years,” said Tes Mehring, ESU provost and vice president for academic affairs. “As we conducted two searches for the right individual to lead the enrollment management effort, it became apparent to us that what Jim has accomplished was light-years ahead of anything that anyone had shown us during screening process,” Mehring continued.
As part of the administrative realignment, Mehring will assume the responsibilities Williams carried from the university’s student life division. “This gives us a chance to blend the academic affairs and student life functions into a cohesive, complementary plan,” said Mehring, whose title will change to provost and vice president for academic affairs and student life.
Williams will retain the position of vice president for strategic partnerships, helping build and manage partnerships within the university and with the business community, the region, and other educational institutions.
