Getting a new bridge
The Lyon County Road and Bridge Department will begin work Wednesday to replace a bridge on Road 160 between Roads Y and Z. The area will be closed to traffic for approximately eight weeks. Weather permitting, the replacement should be complete by March 7.
Card shower
A card shower has been requested for former Emporia resident Herman “Swede” Osbourn, who will celebrate his 80th birthday Jan. 14. Cards may be sent to him at 1301 Trinity Drive, Newton, KS 67114. He will celebrate with his daughter, Vicki Ramsey; son, Greg Osbourn; and grandchildren, Eric Ramsey and Brooke Gonzalez; and great-grandson, Joshua Gonzalez and wife, JoAnn. Osbourn lived in Emporia 18 years and worked for the AT&SF Railway as transitman in the engineering department.
