Angel Food January orders include chicken, pasta, steak

Menus have been announced for January’s Angel Food boxes, which will be distributed on Saturday, Jan. 24.

The boxes are available to the public without income restrictions. Boxes need to be ordered on the designated dates and times at the sponsoring churches. Payment may be made with cash, money orders, or Vision cards at the time the order is placed.

The senior-convenience box — containing 10 seasoned, nutritionally balanced, and fully cooked meals — sells for $28. The entrees, not including side dishes and desserts for each, are: New Orleans style chicken over savory rice, grilled chicken strips and penne pasta, beef and bowtie pasta, flame-broiled Salisbury steak, cheery chicken and broccoli casserole, classic chicken tetrazzini, country fried steak, spaghetti with meatballs, chicken parmesan, and flame-broiled beef patty.

The regular box of food, which sells for $30, will include 1.5 lb. ribeye steak, 4 lb. leg quarters, 1.5 lb. beef patties, 18 oz. cheese-filled manicotti, 2 lb. pork rib strips, 1 lb. chicken breast fajita strips, 1 lb. ground turkey, 1 lb. broccoli, 1lb. peas, 6-count oatmeal variety box, 32 oz. 2 percent shelf-stable milk, 8-oz. blueberry muffin mix, 12-count white corn tortillas, 1 lb. pinto beans, 7 oz. chicken-flavored rice and vermicelli, one dozen eggs, dessert.

Five bonus boxes also are available with the purchase of either a regular or a senior box.

Box No. 1 will contain 6 pounds of assorted meats, $22; Box No. 2, 4.5 lb. bacon-wrapped meats, including beef, pork, and chicken filets, $21; Box No. 3, 3.75 lb. T-bone steak, $21; Box No. 4, 10 lbs. of chicken, $20; and Box No. 5, fresh fruit and vegetables, including baking and sweet potatoes, onions, oranges, pecan halves, cabbage, grapefruit, carrots, tangerines and Bosc pears, $21.

Orders will be taken at the Emporia Presbyterian Church, 802 Commercial St., from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The Americus United Presbyterian Church, 557 Broadway, will take orders from 1 to 6 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The Emporia Church of the Nazarene, 2931 W. 24th Ave., will take orders from 2 to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Orders will be taken at Grace United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, from 2 to 6 p.m. on Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Orders that are not picked up at the times designated on receipts will be donated to others in need.
