With the memory of Saturday’s spring-like weather still fresh in their minds, Emporia’s public-school students went back to class today after a long winter vacation.
Nancy Horst, community relations director for the Emporia school district, said the students will find few changes on their return. The district undertook no big remodeling or redecorating projects during the break.
“It was pretty much business as usual,” Horst said.
She did say there was some excitement at Emporia High School while the students were gone. A fresh air vent stuck open and the frigid air froze heating pipes, breaking some of them. Repairs have been made.
Horst said the district does not yet have a count of the number of students returning for the second semester.
“We’ll be monitoring that closely this week,” she said. “So far, we haven’t seen any change” but schools are still working on their individual counts.
She said the big jobs coming up for the district this month are preparations for the next school year. Meetings for parents are being scheduled and high school enrollment will begin before the end of the month.
