ESU women lose at home to Southwest Baptist

Emporia State suffered its first MIAA loss on Saturday night at White Auditorium, losing to Southwest Baptist 86-73.
The Lady Hornets led 55-40 after two Brittney Miller free throws, but they were outscored 46-18 over the final 13:28.
Southwest Baptist shot 66.7 percent in the second half and made 5-of-8 3-pointers in the second half, scoring 54 points after the break.
Emporia State missed 9-of-11 3-pointers in the second half and struggled with SBU’s switching back and forth from zone to man-to-man defenses.
Andrea Leiker and Sophia Lenard led Emporia State with 14 points apiece. MIAA leading scorer Courtney Creed led the Bearcats with 18 points, 14 of which came in the second half.
Emporia State falls to 5-1 in the MIAA, but remains tied for first place because Washburn also lost on home Saturday. For complete coverage of Saturday’s game, check Monday’s Gazette.

Andrea Leiker leads Emporia State with 13 points and the Lady Hornets lead Southwest Baptist 42-32 at the half.
Southwest Baptist lead once, 14-13, and Emporia State has led the rest of the way. Emporia State responded to SBU’s only lead with an 8-0 run.
The Lady Hornets had a 7-0 run near the end of the first half to extend their lead from five to 12.
Ida Edwards is on her to her sixth double-double of the season. Edwards has six points and a game-high seven rebounds. Cassondra Boston and Sophia Lenard both have six points apiece, and Allie Renberg has scored five points and has four rebounds off the bench.
