Pipes and drums in K.C.

Winter Storm 2009 — The Pipes and Drums Concert featuring an international all Gold-Medal line-up of 19 of the world’s best highland bagpipers and Scottish drummers from Scotland, Canada and the United States will be performed at 7:15 p.m. Jan. 17 in Kansas City, Mo., at the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Community Christian Church, 4601 Main St. Admission is $30 for adults, $15 for children under 12 years and free for children under five years. Tickets are available online at www.WinterStorm.net. Doors open at 6 p.m. Seating is limited.

The world-class concert showcases renowned bagpipers Chris Armstrong, John Cairns, Mike Cusack, Alastair Dunn, Stuart Liddell, Angus MacColl, Willis McCallum and Fred Morrison. Champion Scottish snare drummers Drew Duthart, John Fisher, J. Reid Maxwell, Steven McWhirter and Barry Wilson will be highlighted, along with champion bass drummers Mike Cole and Johnny Rowe. Also featured are world champion flourishing tenor drummers, “Haggis” MacLeod, Emily McLeod and Michael O’Neil.

Special guest performers will be the Kansas City Highland Dancers and the winners of the 2009 U.S. Gold and Silver Medal Piping and Drumming championships.
