RON BURBRIDGE, who will be featured in a Smithsonian documentary about his experiences in the Korean War. The footage was filmed in Dallas.
• The Emporia Middle School eighth-grade basketball team, which completed a perfect 15-0 season. The was the first undefeated season in EMS history.
• Meg Detwiler, who won the Lyon County Spelling Bee. Gabriel O’Conner was the runner up. Both will compete in the regional spelling bee in Topeka.
• Toni Haggard, who was named a 2009 World Series of Poker Champion after winning a tournament in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
• The Emporia High School wrestling team, which won the Class 5A Regional wrestling tournament. Thirteen EHS wrestlers will advance to State meet this weekend.
• Organizers and participants of the St Patrick’s Auction that raised $6,600. The money will benefit The Learning Center and Young Thespian Players.
• Lloyd Fox and Angela Anderson, who will be honored by the Kansas Wildlife Federation next month. Fox will receive the Wildlife Conservationist of the Year award and Anderson will receive the Conservation Educator award.
