The Sustainable Living Center at Flint Hills Technical College is offering a four-hour workshop on “High Tunnel Growing” from 4:30 to 9 p.m. March 25.
This rapidly expanding approach to local food production will be discussed in depth with two prominent experts — Dan Nagengast of the Kansas Rural Center and Ted Carey from the K-State Research and Extension Center in Olathe.
The use of high tunnels for growing fruits and vegetables is definitely part of the future of agriculture. Anyone with an interest in growing for market, diversifying the farm production or just increasing personal food-producing capabilities should attend
The schedule for the workshop is:
• Gathering and tour of high tunnel under construction at FHTC, 4:30-5:15 p.m.
• Dan Nagengast, Kansas Rural Center, 5:30 –6:45 p.m.
• K-State Research and Extension Center –Olathe, 7 –8:15 p.m.
• Closing comments and discussion, 8:15 –8:30 p.m.
The workshop costs $15. To register, call Flint Hills Technical College at 341-1372 or 341-1392.
