Sophia Lenard came out of the Emporia State locker room on Wednesday night at Lee Arena with a cut above her lip and an ice pack on her hand.
When Emporia State and Washburn play, it feels like a heavyweight fight.
Round 1 went to Emporia State.
Round 2: Washburn.
Behind a dominant performance in the post from senior Stanecia Graham, who scored 28 points, the Lady Blues won 87-74 to avoid what would have been the first ESU sweep since the 2003-04 season.
Washburn (23-4, 16-4 MIAA) will have to sit and watch on Saturday to see whether Fort Hays State can pull off an upset win at Emporia State (22-4, 16-3), which would need to happen for the two schools to share the MIAA regular season title for the second straight season.
