Three Emporians who were teenagers during World War II will share their homefront perspectives during the next World War II Roundtable.
Sally Holliman, Ray Call and Chuck Hanna will offer their thoughts on how the war affected the communities in which they were growing up.
The Roundtable’s spring presentation will be 7:30 p.m. March 5 in the Kanza Room of Emporia State University’s Memorial Union.
Holliman will speak of her experiences growing up during World War II in Oak Ridge, Tenn., where the atomic bomb, used against Hiroshima and Nagasaki, was developed. Call and Hanna are both Kansas natives and veterans, will also be guest speakers at the event. Call grew up in Sedan and worked for many years as executive editor of The Emporia Gazette. Hanna lived in Emporia during the war and returned to the community after his Army service.
As is the case with all World War II Roundtable meetings, admission to the event is free, and the public is encouraged to attend. For more information, contact Christopher Lovett, professor of history, at Emporia State University, 341-5577.
