Islamic speaker at ESU
An Islamic scholar will speak at 4 p.m. Thursday in Albert Taylor Hall at Emporia State University. Imam Sayid Hassan Al-Qazwini will talk about “The Philosophy of Islam.”
Originally from Iraq, Qazwini is the author of “American Crescent: A Muslim Cleric on the Power of His Faith, the Struggle Against Prejudice, and the Future of Islam and America.” Copies of the book will be available for sale at a book-signing immediately following Qazwini’s speech.
Qazwini is the leader of the Islamic center in Detroit, Mich.
The event is sponsored by ESU’s Office of International Education, Center for Student Involvement, Multicultural Affairs Office, Philosophy Club and the department of social sciences’ Boertman Lecture Fund.

Friday is the last day for people whose last names begin with the letter A to renew their vehicle registrations without penalty. Friday is also the last day for all heavy truck and trailer renewals.
Proof of insurance is required to renew vehicle licenses.
The Motor Vehicle Office in the Lyon County Courthouse is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
