The Flint Hills Community Health Center will participate in a postcard campaign to support funding for safety net clinics, board members learned during Tuesday’s board of directors meeting.
Lougene Marsh, executive director of the Flint Hills Community Health Center/Lyon County Health Department, said this morning the postcard campaign is being organized by the Kansas Association for the Medically Underserved. The campaign asks patients to complete postcards related to services they receive at the center, Marsh said. Marsh said the center hopes to have the postcards by March.
The board also will welcome a new board member, Missy Baneshelton. Baneshelton is a crisis services director at SOS. Baneshelton had previously worked at the Flint Hills Community Health Center several years ago and also has worked at SRS.
“She’ll be an excellent member,” Marsh said. “She certainly knows about community services and our operations.”
In other business, the board discussed the possibility of community screening services. Marsh said the board is looking at the possibility of offering some community health services similar to those offered by Newman Regional Health with the senior centers. The discussion was prompted by Newman’s decision to eliminate some of the outreach services, Marsh said.
“We’re looking at the possibility to see whether we have the staff capacity to offer some of those services,” Marsh said.
