Hartford has picked a good time to play some of its best basketball of the season.
The Jaguars have won three of their last four games and beat White City 65-59 on Tuesday to advance to the Regional semifinals against Marias des Cygnes, which will be played Friday at Madison.
Craig Woods scored 18 points, Adam Ewy scored 16 and Colby Gardner added 12 points to lead third-seeded Hartford into the next round.
“We shared the basketball probably the best tonight other than maybe one other game all year,” Hartford coach Chuck Ewy said. “I thought we did an extremely good job of finding the open person and making sure that we hit them with a good pass.”
Hartford struggled during the middle of the season, but the Jags have also picked up their play on the defensive end lately with senior Logan Grieder setting the tone.
“I think our defensive consistency is starting to pick back up,” Ewy said. “We just had that part where we struggled, it really wasn’t on the offensive end, it was defensively. We were making it a little too easy for teams, but last couple ball games I thought we’ve done a much better job, especially rebounding. Tonight we had times where we were really sweeping the glass clean and when you do that and limit teams to one shot it makes it easier to build a lead offensively.”
