An auction Friday night at Bruff’s Grill and Bar brought in $6,600 toward donations that will be split this year between The Learning Center operated at the First Christian Church and the Young Thespian Players.
The auction is one of several fundraising efforts made annually by the St. Patrick’s Day Committee, and more are underway through March 14.
Committee members are selling tickets for a drawing for a 50-inch plasma television. Donations of $1 for one ticket or $5 for six tickets are requested.
The TV will be given away in a drawing after the St. Patrick’s Day parade, scheduled at 1 p.m., March 14, from Fourth to 12th Avenue on Commercial Street.
Entries continue to be accepted for the parade, according to Bev Durham who, with Ron Gilligan, is in charge of the event.
Durham said that “Limited Edition 2009 Emporia St. Patrick’s Celebration T-shirts” are for sale at $15 each. The shirts are gray and short-sleeved, and are available at Navrat’s Office Products, 728 Mechanic St., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
Shirts and more information about the celebration are available from Daryl Polzin, 343-7031.
Novelty items also will be sold on parade day, Durham said.
