Show auditions
Singers and dancers from the community can try out for the cast of an upcoming Community Theatre of Emporia production, “The Melody Lingers On: The Songs of Irving Berlin.”
Auditions will begin at 7:30 p.m. March 2 in Beach Music Hall on the Emporia State University campus.
Publicity chairman Jim Tefelski said that singers should bring their music for the pianist and “be prepared to move.”
The show, directed by Penny Speedie, will be March 20 and 21 at the Emporia Country Club.

Chat with the super
John Heim, Emporia’s superintendent of schools, will join Gazette readers online Tuesday for a chat. The chat will begin at 1:15 p.m. Questions for Heim may be submitted during the chat or in advance on The Gazette’s Web site, www.emporiagazette.com.
The chat would be an opportunity to ask questions about what changes are likely in the Emporia schools in the wake of the state’s adoption of a revised budget for 2009 and the likelihood of further cuts in the school-aid budget for 2010.
