The Emporia Social Service Club meets from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. the fourth Monday of every month at Fourth Ave. and Merchant St. in the large white building. Information: 342-8881.

The Emporia Chess Society meets from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at JavaCat-5, 610 Merchant St. All ages and skill levels are welcome, including children. There is no charge.

The Reading Lions Club meets at 7 p.m. at the Reading Community Building.

Tuesday

P.E.O. Chapter HY meets at 9:30 a.m. with Cathy Hoy, assisted by Connie Somer. There will be election and installation of officers. Retired judge John Sanderson will present the program, “What you have always wanted to know about the Judiciary, but were afraid to ask.” Pat Howard will give the continuing education report.

The Rotary Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.

The Kiwanis Club meets at 6 p.m. at the American Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave. The program is scheduled at 7. For information, contact club secretary Virginia Higgins at higginskiwanis@cableone.net or 340-2466.

Wednesday

The Sunrise Rotary Club meets at 7 a.m. at the Regency Gardens, 3021 W. Highway 50.

AARP Chapter 285 meets at 11:30 a.m. at the Regency Gardens. Greg Jordan of the Lyon County Historical Society will present the program. The public is welcome to attend.

Military Order of the Purple Heart meets at 6:30 p.m. at the Army Reserve Center, 1412 E. Sixth Ave. Information: Aaron Bura, 342-4381.

Lyon County Chapter 36 Disabled American Veterans meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Army Reserve Center, 1412 E. Sixth Ave. The Auxiliary meets at 7:30 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month at the same location at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday

The Flint Hills Optimist Club meets at noon at the ESU Memorial Union.

The Hi-Noon Kiwanis Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.

The Sertoma Club will not meet today, because of award dinner held Wednesday.

The Emporia Model Railroad Club meets at 7:30 p.m. at 916 Arundel St. the last Thursday of each month. Those interested in model or prototype railroading are welcome to attend. Information: 342-2632.

Saturday

The Emporia Airport Action Group meets at approximately 9:30 a.m. every Saturday in the main terminal of the Emporia Municipal Airport for “hangar talk,” coffee and doughnuts. “You are free to move about” the airport. Information: 342-3598.
