Graham goes distance in Hornets win

Ben Graham pitched a complete game and Emporia State won 6-1 on Friday at Colorado Mines
Graham allowed only five hits and one run in the first complete game by an ESU pitcher this season.
Emporia State had 10 hits, seven of which were singles.
After three scoreless innings, the Hornets scored first on a Kenny Burkhead single. Jeremy Francis added to the lead in the fifth inning when he tripled in a run and then scored on a single by Andy Cotton.
The Hornets pushed across one more in the seventh when Kevin Wempe scored on a passed ball. The Hornets’ final two runs came in the eighth inning when Cotton scored on a passed ball and Burkhead hit an RBI double.
Burkhead finished with three hits and two RBIs. Calder Cody and Cotton both had two hits. Graham finished with nine strikeouts, allowing Mines only run in the ninth inning. Graham improved to 1-1 on the season and ESU moved to 4-2 overall.
The Hornets return to the field today in Golden, Colo., when they face Mines in a doubleheader.
