With eight champions and 13 wrestlers who qualified for next week's State tournament, the Emporia High wrestling team dominated its Class 5A regional on Saturday at EHS.
The Spartans scored 233.5 points, besting second-place St. Thomas Aquinas by more than 100. Winning championships in their weight classes during Saturday evening's finals were Bryce Dakin at 103 pounds, Jared Dakin at 119 pounds, Justin Rose at 130, Sal Tovar at 135, Tavo Dikin at 140, Zeb Peak at 152, Mark Kolmer at 189 and Lorenzo Serna at heavyweight. Also qualifying for State were Colby Walecki at 125 pounds, Chase Sanchez at 145, Logan Gaskill at 160, Taylor Lee at 171 and Jordan Barr at 215. Emporia coach Greg Buckbee earned the Regional coach of the year honor.
