Emporia High School vocal music students will be in Wichita next week for two special events.
The EHS Chorale was invited to attend a workshop on Tuesday featuring composer Gwyneth Walker at Wichita State University.
“Chorale has been working on four of Ms. Walker’s songs this past month. We will have 90 minutes to work with her during the afternoon and then we will be part of a concert on the WSU campus at 7:30 that evening,” said Shereé Stoppel, EHS vocal music director. “This is an exciting honor for Chorale to be selected to work with Ms. Walker and WSU.”
The EHS choir was one of only two high school groups statewide invited to participate in the workshop. The concert is in Wiedemann Hall on the WSU campus. Tickets are $6 for adults and $2 for students. Two EHS students also were selected to participate in the Kansas Music Educators Association State Honor Choir. Zach Button and Joel Christiansen were chosen from a field of approximately 2, 000 singers in Kansas to sing in the State Honor Choir. Delano Mendoza is a first alternate. They will be in Wichita Thursday through Saturday next week for rehearsals and a concert.
The KMEA Festival Choir will perform at 1:15 p.m. Saturday in the Century II Concert Hall.
