St. Andrew’s set to serve pancakes
Everyone in the Emporia community is welcome to join the people of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church for next week’s Shrove Tuesday pancake supper. The supper will be served from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the parish hall at the church, 828 Commercial St.
Tickets — $5 for adults, $2 for children under 10 — are available at the church office or at the door Tuesday evening. The menu features all the pancakes a diner cares to eat, plus sausage or bacon and drinks. Proceeds of the supper help sustain the ministries of St. Andrew’s.
Shrove Tuesday, also known as “Fat Tuesday,” which is English for “Mardi Gras,” began as a day to use fats and sweets from households’ pantries before the beginning of Lent, a season of fasting and penitence.
EHS bowling teams
Emporia High School will have their first varsity and junior varsity boys and girls bowling teams. To help support the teams, Flint Hills Lanes is sponsoring a raffle to benefit the Emporia High Spartan Bowling program. Other prizes include a banner signed by PBA tour bowlers, an ebonite rayzr bowling ball and bowling party for 10 people. The drawing will be held April 4. People do not have to be present to win. Winners, if not present, will be notified by mail.
