Storm-spotter school
The National Weather Service office in Topeka has announced its schedule for storm-spotter training for this year. Emporia and three area communities are included in the schedule for March.
The Emporia session will be at 7 p.m. March 10 at the Anderson Building on the Lyon County Fairgrounds. The meetings are open to all who are interested in how to identify dangerous weather conditions. Where the weather service needs official spotters, sign-up sheets will be available. The class lasts about an hour.
Other sessions will be at 7 p.m. March 23 at the Morris County Courthouse, 501 W. Main St. in Council Grove; 7 p.m. March 24 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 212 Iowa St. in Olpe; and 7 p.m. March 31 at the ACCC Healthcare Academy, 139 N. First Terrace in New Strawn.
Expo weekend
The 2009 Spring Expo, showing merchandise and services for the home and garden, will be Saturday and Sunday in the Anderson Building at the Lyon County Fairgrounds.
The event, sponsored by the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce, will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Admission to the expo is free.
