Time is running out to put together teams for the 3rd Annual Polar Plunge on Feb. 28 at Mouse Lake, 1101 Topeka St.
The theme for this year’s plunge is “Freezin’ for a Reason,” and organizers are looking for teams of at least five people each to participate in the event.
Teams will raise money to benefit Special Olympics Kansas athletes, with a minimum entry fee of $75. All participants will receive commemorative sweatshirts. Teams that raise $250 will get a cooler; $500 will get a jacket, and $1,000 will get all three.
Organizers have scheduled a variety of events, including music and a costume parade.
Registration and activities will begin at 8 a.m. at the Emporia Senior Center, 603 E. 12th Ave. with a pancake feed for $5. Registration will move to Mouse Lake at 10:30 a.m., and the plunge will take place at 11:30 a.m.
To warm up after the plunge, there will be a potato and soup bar offered at the senior center for $5.
