With a loss last year at Missouri Southern serving as motivation, Ida Edwards scored 22 points, had six rebounds, six assists, four blocks and two steals in a 79-56 win on Saturday.
And oh yeah, she didn’t miss a shot either, going 10-for-10 from the field to set a school record and finish one basket short of the MIAA record, which is 11-for-11.
Thanks to the other-worldly performance and a double-double in a win last Tuesday at Southwest Baptist, Edwards was named the MIAA player of the week on Monday. She joined Washburn’s Janice Bright as the only other player to win the award three times this season.
Edwards has been a consistent force for the Lady Hornets, averaging 14.4 points and 10.1 rebounds. She bumped up her scoring last week, averaging 20.5 points.
“I just try to come out and play hard every night,” Edwards said Saturday. “I hope every night I have a big night.”
Edwards wanted to have a big game on Saturday, because Missouri Southern upset Emporia State last season and came into the game as the hottest team in the league.
“It’s pretty easy to get up for a game like this, especially, in this atmosphere,” Edwards said. “We’ve played here before and I think this is a pretty hard gym for anybody to play in. It was pretty easy for us to get up for a game like this, get excited and we brought it out, put everything on the line and I think we were good as a whole as a team, especially on the defensive end.”
