Like to read? Like chocolate?
If the answer to both questions is yes, then the Friends of the Emporia Public Library have a sweet deal for you.
As part of the organization’s membership drive, it will sponsor its Chocolate Extravaganza from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the library, 110 E. Sixth Ave. The event will include chocolate treats to sample, prize drawings and a presentation about Friends.
The extravaganza is free — sort of. Only members of the organization are invited. That’s the tie-in with the membership drive. The good news is that memberships will be available at the door. Membership is not that expensive — $15 for an individual or $20 for a family or organization. Contributing memberships are $50 and an individual life membership is $150.
Members get to help the Friends group in its work to support the library and its programs. There are perks beyond the Chocolate Extravaganza. Friends members get early admission to the organization’s book sales, held in the spring and the summer. This year’s spring sale will run April 16 (for members) through 22.
