The complete sets of the William Allen White books for Grades 3 through 5 and 6 through 8 are available for check out. The students will vote on their favorite book in April. The celebration with other students from across the state and a parade will be held in October in Emporia.
“Black Settlers on the Kaw Indian Reservation” by Jim Sharp, “The Associate” by John Grisham, “Look It Up Book of Presidents,” “U.S. Guide to Coins,” new bird books and many mystery books including the Twilight and Shopaholic series are available for checkout. A wide variety of videos, DVDs and audio books are on the shelves for checkout, too.
A display case is offered free to the public for the purpose of showing collections or highlighting a holiday or event. Call the library for information.
Story time for preschool children is at 9:30 a.m. each Thursday. The group completed Valentine greetings as a craft project for the month of February. A St. Patrick’s Day project for March and an Easter project for April are planned. A special event in March will be the appearance of The Cat in the Hat at 1:30 p.m. March 5 for the preschool group.
The winter hours for the library are 1 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday; and 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Chamber news
The Americus Chamber of Commerce will meet at 7:30 a.m. March 7 in The New Breck Cafe.
Current officers are: Mike Pearson, president; Cathy Tatum, vice-president; Kristi Gadino, secretary; and Jean Winkler, treasurer. Memberships are available and the general public is welcome to attend the meeting.
