EHS girls re-enter KBCA rankings

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

Emporia High’s girls re-entered the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association rankings this week, reaching the No. 9 ranking in Class 5A.

The Lady Spartans (10-4) have won five straight games. Their latest win came last Friday against Shawnee Heights, which is ranked No. 10 in this week’s 5A girls poll. Tonight at EHS, Emporia takes on Junction City (9-4), which is ranked No. 6 in this week’s poll in Class 6A.

Ranked ahead of Emporia in this week’s 5A top 10 are top-ranked Carroll, followed by Miege, Liberal, Aquinas, Andover Central, Salina South, Lansing and Hutchinson.

Among other area schools, Olpe and Lebo are both in the KBCA girls top 10 in Class 2A. The Eagles are ranked No. 5, while the Wolves came in this week at No. 8.

On the boys side, undefeated Olpe held its spot as the top-ranked team in Class 2A. The Eagles are the only area boys team currently ranked. Like Emporia’s girls, the Spartan boys will also be facing a top-10 team tonight; the Junction City boys (9-5) are ranked No. 10 in Class 6A.
