After giving up six runs (five earned) and six walks in the first start of her career on Friday, Emporia State freshman pitcher Jennifer Heerey changed her approach, calmed down and pitched to her potential on Saturday.
Heerey pitched a complete game, giving up two runs and six hits, and No. 25 Emporia State beat No. 18 Colorado School of Mines 5-2 in Game 1 on Saturday. Senior pitcher Megan Dennis followed with another complete game, and Dennis improved to 2-0 with a 6-4 win to complete the Saturday sweep and give the Hornets a 3-1 series win.
