Emporia High submitted two swimming teams for the Manhattan Invitational on Saturday, and the Spartan teams combined finished 13th out of 21 squads, collecting 75 points.
As usual, diving was the Spartans’ strong point, with state qualifiers Derek Krause, Brett Schaefer and Sam Nolan finishing 1-3-6 in Friday’s diving action. Krause scored 362.55 points to take the top spot. The divers provided the Spartans’ only medals for the meet, but Dillon Supiran did pick up two top-13 finishes on the swimming side. Supiran finished 12th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.85 seconds and raced to 13th in the 100 backstroke by clocking 1:05.21.
