House fire claims one life

One person is dead following a house fire Saturday afternoon.
Fire and ambulance crews were called to a fire at 1025 Lincoln St. at 4:08 p.m. Saturday.
The name of the victim is being withheld pending identification.
According to a news release from the Emporia Fire Department, heavy smoke from the structure was visible as units approached the scene.
Fire crews entered the house to search for victims and extinguish the fire. One body was located using a thermal-imaging camera. A thorough search revealed no other persons, the release stated.
The fire was extinguished, leaving extensive fire and smoke damage.
Fire and police department personnel are investigating the cause of the fire.
