Redeker, Klumpe keep Olpe undefeated

Saturday, February 7, 2009

Osage City had the perfect scenario to give Olpe its first loss this season.

With Olpe point guard Bradley Argabright already on the bench with four fouls, Cole Krueger joined him with 5:40 left in the third quarter when he charged into Osage City’s Jordan Tice for his fourth foul.

Tice had taken Olpe’s two leading scorers out of the game, drawing three charges on the pair. Unfortunately for Osage City, Matt Redeker and Josh Klumpe found a way to steer clear of Tice. Redeker scored a season-high 18 points and Klumpe added 13, helping keep Olpe’s undefeated season alive with a 40-32 win.

“When you come into a game like this and you’ve got your better players in foul trouble,” Redeker said, “you’ve just got to rely on other guys to come off the bench and the rest of the starters to step up and make plays.”

Olpe desperately needed someone to step up on Friday night. Argabright picked up his second foul three minutes into the game, and Olpe went scoreless for the first 4 minutes and 23 seconds.

excuse me but since when do 2 people win a basketball game.. as I read that headline... it sickened me.. they wouldn't be able to even play without 5 people on the court.... i think its extremely disrespectful to the rest of the team.......

You see this type of headline even here at EHS. The coaches seem to only depend on a few players. Is it right? No! Will it change? Never! But in their defense, I don't think they (the coaches) have control over what the headline is going to read. The writing staff is guilty in my eyes for allowing these kind of headlines.

My daughter was a very team oriented player her years of playing ball for Olpe Eagles. Myslef as a parent saw both sides of the story. We had one child who was a star player and one who sat on the bench most of the time. I also had the advantage to see how our EHS girls basketball coach was. I was not impressed with him either.

I was impressed with how Coach Davis handled situations. If it wasn't for Mrs. Davis, I am sure my daughter wouldn't have played for the head coach of Olpe.

Are you serious with me, a Headline... is supposed to tell you what the story is about. And it seems to me this story is about Redeker and Klumpe having good games to give their team a win. I've also read stories this season where Argabright and Krueger led the way. It isn't a reporters job to write about all five players...every game...it is the writers job to tell you what happened in the game and the reasons behind it. This is just a good basketball story, like all basketball stories. Give me a break, enjoy the story and when your kid has a good game, enjoy the fact that he got interviewed. And last but not least, be happy you have a paper that even covers your school, I went through four years of high school and never once did we have a player interviewed, or even have a reporter at our games, for shame, you get some of the best coverage (especially of small high schools) in the state and yet you whine cause it isn't perfect. I know alot of kids in Southern and Western Kansas that just wish they got a score in the paper once in a while. Oh and I'm sure you want examples so here goes Chaparral, Medicine Lodge, Belle Plain, South Barber, Attica, Macksville, South Central, Cheney, Conway Springs, .... none of these schools have devoted papers to cover them, so stop complaining about the great coverage you get.
