Annual Meeting
The Lyon County Historical Society will hold the annual meeting Tuesday at the Lyon County Museum. A short business meeting will include election of new board members. The raffle drawing will be held at 6:30 p.m. followed by the regular Tuesday night program at 7 p.m. The program is in conjunction with the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Symposium and the ESU Department of Social Sciences. University of Mississippi professor John Neff, author of “Honoring the Civil War Dead,” will lead an informal discussion about Lincoln. Refreshments will be served and the public is invited to attend.
Neosho Rapids City Council
The regular monthly Neosho Rapids city council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the community building. The agenda includes monthly business of the city and bidding opening for the sewer project. The public is encouraged to attend.
FiberFest 2009
A FiberFest 2009 event featuring yarn, knitting and crocheting classes at all level, demonstrations and other activities, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 14 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 823 Commercial St. Regional knitters, crocheters, weavers and spinners will come to buy or swap yarn and books or to take a class. There is no admission charge. ESU students will have a bake sale in conjunction with FiberFest 2009. For more information, call Karen at (620) 794-9107. Those who have a large amount of yarn to sell or swap, may rent table space. Proceeds from the rental of table space will benefit the needy of the community through St. Andrew’s Church.
Green Living America
Green Living America will have the third monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 19. For the location, call Bill Hanlon at 341-1335 or join the Google Group at http://groups.google.com/group/greenlivingemporia. This is an informal group of people interested in learning from each other how to live in a more environmentally sustainable fashion. They meet monthly in members’ homes and work together on home-improvement projects.
