North Lyon County residents question suggestion to shut down Admire school

Thursday, December 3, 2009

ALLEN — More time, more details and better justification are what North Lyon County parents who attended a special school board meeting want from their district officials.

A crowd of more than 150 people listened to more than 30 people speak to Superintendent Mike Nulton and school board members Wednesday night at Northern Heights High School. The meeting was held to gain reaction and suggestions in response to a proposal to close Admire school as a cost-cutting measure.

During the meeting moderated by Jerry Karr, the public — the majority being North Lyon County School District parents — offered concerns, suggestions and comments. People were given numbers and were called in numerical order. More than 30 people spoke on everything from cutting the superintendent’s salary to using box-top programs to raise money to help with the budget shortfall.
