Hot drinks during parade

The people of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church will continue their tradition of offering hot cider and cookies to parade-watchers on Tuesday night. The church building, 828 Commercial St., will keep the doors open until the parade is over for people want to warm up or use the church’s bathrooms.

Library class

The Emporia Public Library will offer classes at 2 and 6 p.m. Thursday about using the library’s new online video on demand service, MyLibraryDV. The classes are free. Registration is requested by calling 340-6462. MyLibraryDV is a 24 hour, seven day a week online service that provides EPL patrons with more than 1,000 videos, including feature films, travel, health, cooking and more, stated the news release. The service is accessible from the library web page at www.emporialibrary.org and requires a library card in good standing. For more information, call 340-6464 or fax: 340-6444 or e-mail: blechls@emporialibrary.org.

Prescription meeting

The Lyon County Department on Aging, North Central Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging and Social Security Administration (Medicare) will sponsor a joint Medicare Prescription Drug Plan selection and sign up day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 14 in the public meeting room at the courthouse annex, 402 Commercial St.

Personnel will assist people with comparing plans and enrollment and explain various financial assistance programs available for the prescription drug program in 2010. People are to call the Lyon County Department on Aging at 342-6119 to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome, but wait times may be lengthy as appointments will have priority, stated the news release.

Seems like it'd be warmer (and more energy efficient) if they kept the doors closed...

Much better than the church being open and serving hot drinks, the Daylight Donut shop was open and serving donuts!!!!!!! For someone like me, who isn't a morning person but loves fresh donuts, it was like a dream come true..........

How nice of Daylight Donuts. I think I'll go by this morning and give them some of my business because they had such good PR. Like I need the calories, but it's Christmas.
