Schwan’s driver injured in 1-vehicle accident

Monday, August 31, 2009

Scott Manville, 50, of Manhattan, was taken by helicopter ambulance from the scene of a one-vehicle accident Saturday morning on U.S. Highway 56 in north Lyon County.

According to a report from Sheriff’s Deputy Jacob Welsh, Manville was driving a Schwan’s delivery truck east about Milepost 366 when the truck left the road and rolled several times.

Manville was thrown from the truck. An unidentified Army combat life saver came upon the scene just after the accident and found Manville lying in a ditch, Welsh reported. The soldier treated Manville until emergency medical technicians arrived.

North Lyon County First Responders, Emporia Fire Department and emergency medical technicians also worked the accident.

Manville first was flown by helicopter ambulance to Stormont-Vail HealthCare in Topeka, then transferred to the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.

Welsh reported Manville had injuries to his head, ribs, hip and extremities.

The accident, reported at 9:22 a.m., is under investigation. Manville’s condition was not available early this morning.
