Friday, August 28, 2009
The fourth annual “Prairie Quilt Display” will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 5, 6 and 7 in the historic limestone barn at the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve. Those who wish to display a quilt may call the preserve at (620) 273-6034 before Sept. 2 to reserve a space. Votes will be taken for a “favorite quilt”; winners will be announced at 1 p.m. Sept. 7.
Quilting demonstrations will be available all three days and visitors will have the opportunity to learn from National Park Service rangers and local experts about the origins of quilting, traditional designs and modern techniques. Visitor participation on the community quilt is highly encouraged. For more information or to make group reservations, call (620) 273-8494, see www.nps.gov/tapr or e-mail: tapr_interpretation@nps.gov.
