Arts Council receives fundraising challenge

Thursday, August 27, 2009

30-Day Fundraising Challenge Issued

If $62,000 can be raised by the Emporia Arts Council in the next 30 days, an anonymous donor will gift $75,000 and the EAC Capital Campaign will reach its $2.8 million goal.

“The donor is a strong supporter of EAC and Emporia,” said Windsor. “He and his family want to see EAC secure the $245,000 challenge grant from the Jones Trust and begin construction as soon as possible.”

To expedite the campaign, says Windsor, the donor has given EAC until September 30 to raise the final $62,000 and reach the campaign’s goal of $2.8 million.

“The donor is incredibly proud of the 344 individuals, families, companies and foundations who have been so generous to this campaign,” said Windsor. “The idea is to provide additional motivation and inspiration to the community to help complete the campaign and start building.”

Windsor said the 30-day deadline is welcomed. “It has been two years since the public phase of this campaign began; and we would like to honor all those who have joined us and supported us by starting construction as soon as possible.”

The planned two-story art center, funded by the capital campaign, will dramatically enhance EAC’s programming, workshops and exhibitions.

“Located directly north of the renovated Granada Theatre, the new EAC facility will maximize spaces within both buildings creating a variety of opportunities for the community and region. The profile of EAC and its work will be significantly enhanced with the new location,” said Windsor.

“Beyond its practical purposes,” said Windsor, “the new facility also serves to re-enforce EAC’s belief that arts and culture in its many forms serves to build a more cohesive, cooperative and original community.”

I wouldn't mind donating, IF I am assured the council would be a good steward in the use of the funds.

Could anyone tell us what the arts council paid for each of the three buildings where the new council will be built?

Who is "Windsor"?

The community is going to be hussled for money during these poor economic times for so many people around here, yet no better identification than "Windsor" in the article.
