Members of an Emporia fitness center and a state organization want to make sure Emporia students have the supplies they need to start the school year.
Boxes and bags of supplies were donated this month to Emporia’s elementary schools by members of Curves for Women at the Flinthills Mall and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Kansas Society Sons of the American Revolution.
Curves owners Darrell Schneider and Sherry Davidson collected supplies from members for about a month.
“We want to do projects that help out our community,” Davidson said. “We will probably do a toy drive later in the year.”
This is the third annual school supply donation from the KSSAR Ladies Auxiliary. The Auxiliary meets in Emporia four times a year at the same time as the KSSAR Board of Governors. The women have a service project in conjunction with each meeting, and they have made the school-supply donation an annual event. The KSSAR is a patriotic, historic and educational non-profit organization.
The supplies were divided among nine schools — the early childhood, elementary and intermediate schools.
