Three Emporia students who are Mount Oread Scholars at the University of Kansas were to make the “symbolic walk up the hill” on Mount Oread at 8:30 a.m. today.
They were Corinne Hirata Edds, freshman, pre-medicine, daughter of Tracy Hirata and David Edds; Jordan Lloyd Edwards, freshman, chemical engineering, son of Tracy and Michelle Edwards; and Caitlin Haley Hotzel, freshman, daughter of J. Eric and Robin Hotzel, all graduates of Emporia Senior High School. First-year students are invited to become Mount Oread Scholars if they graduated in the top 20 percent of their high school classes and received an ACT composite score of at least 28 or a minimum SAT score of 1240, stated the news release.
The walk signifies the beginning of a higher-education journey with the ultimate goal of walking down the hill upon graduation.
