Alcohol education

Monday, August 17, 2009

LAWRENCE (AP) — The University of Kansas is requiring new students ages 22 and younger to complete a two-hour online course teaching them the dangers of alcohol use.

Students will have to finish the first part of the course by Sept. 24 and the second part by Nov. 1. Both parts must be completed for the student to enroll in spring semester.

The course will detail alcohol’s effects on the body and behavior and is designed to reduce irresponsible drinking.

University officials have implemented several initiatives to deal with drinking following two alcohol-related deaths of KU students this spring. In May, the university announced it would begin notifying parents about alcohol or drug violations involving students 21 or younger.
