After hours
The Emporia Area Chamber and Visitors Bureau will be host for a Business After Hours in “20th century elegance,” stated the news release, from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the William Allen White House State Historic Site, 927 Exchange St.
The event will be sponsored by John Mallon. Reservations, due by Tuesday, are required to attend and may be made by calling 342-1600 or on-line in the Community Calendar section of the Chamber Web site, www.emporiakschamber.org.
According to the news release, Business After Hours is a networking opportunity for Chamber members to meet each other and discuss their respective businesses. Non-members of businesses are invited to attend.
A $5 donation for members and their guests and an $8 donation for non-members will be accepted at the door.
New CPA
Kristina L. Weeden of Hartford was one of 29 candidates who successfully passed the CPA computerized examination in the April-May 2009 examination window, stated the news release. Passage of the national examination is the first step to becoming a certified public accountant. To be eligible to receive a permit to practice, an experience requirement must first be met. New position
Mike Crouch is the new executive director of advancement for the Flint Hills Technical College Foundation. Crouch will begin his new position on Aug. 31.
Most recently, Crouch has served as a development officer-special projects for the Emporia State University Foundation. Crouch has also served as executive director for Emporians for Drug Awareness and as a regional sales manager for Stutler Technologies.
Some of Crouch’s duties with FHTC will include fundraiser organization, grant writing and donor solicitation.
