A record fall enrollment was realized at Flint Hills Technical College on Monday as the hallways overflowed with students and parking spots were at a premium. On Aug. 10, the first day of classes, the tech college recorded the highest first day numbers in its history with a headcount of 560 students.
Student headcount numbers were up 11 percent and full-time equivalency (FTE) figures rose 13 percent. One FTE equals 15 credit hours. Most full-time students take 15 credit hours or more per semester and count as one FTE.
“We’re excited about our enrollment,” said Dean Hollenbeck, FHTC president. “It shows the importance and need for technical education in the Emporia community and surrounding areas,” he said.
Hollenbeck expects enrollment to continue to grow as the tech college adds new programs.
“We continue to look at the needs in the community and what we are being asked to provide,” he said. “As we look forward, we will continue to offer and add programs that are beneficial to our region.”

Dean Hollenbeck, FHTC president is so optimistic, I heard he started a new diet on thanksgiving day. Keep up the good work. If opportunity does not knock, Mr Hollenbeck would go out and build a door.
