FHTC employees honored for years of service

Friday, August 14, 2009

Many Flint Hills Technical College employees were honored with service awards during a professional development meeting on Aug. 5. The service awards program was a new program created through the FHTC human resources department and employees were recognized based on their employment through December, 2009. All employees received a certificate of recognition and a gift.

Awards given included:

Five years of service: Charles Bartlett, head custodian; Jason Brinkman, graphic arts technology instructor; Bryan Crouch, graphic arts technology instructor; Steven Harmon, director of customized training; Bradley Karr, instructor; Lisa Kirmer, dean of student services; Kelsey Ortiz, director of Adult Education Center; Nancy Thompson, director of accounting; and Merlin Williams, power plant technology instructor and chairperson for the Division of Technology.

Ten years of service: Janet Anderson-Story, librarian; Kathleen Bode, health occupations technology instructor; Ronald Cahoone, machine tool technology instructor; Karen Christy, computer program design and development instructor and chairperson for the Division of Arts and the Division of Information Technology; Juana Cristobal, Adult Education Center instructor; Cheryl Gibson, hospitality/culinary arts instructor; Monica Graves, dental assisting instructor and chairperson for the Division of Health; William Hanlon, director of the Sustainable Living Center; Mary Lynn Kosinski, practical nursing instructor; Jerry Linsea, industrial engineering instructor; Steven Loewen, dean of instructional services; Bret Pope, automotive technology instructor; and Wilfrido Torres, Adult Education Center administrative specialist.

Fifteen years of service: Larry Green, construction technology instructor; Kathleen Lauer, executive assistant /clerk of the board; Helen Nielsen, food service manager for the Tallgrass Grille; and Adam Starr, network technology instructor.

Twenty years of service: Debra Dempewolf, director of nursing; William Shipman, automotive technology instructor; and Cathy Stotler, teacher aide for automotive technology.

Employees had been recognized throughout the years for years of service, but never in a formalized, annual program. Many employees were “caught up” on their years of service recognition. Now that a formal plan is in place, service awards will be given annually to any employee that has reached five, 10, 15, and 20 years of service or beyond.

“We wanted to recognize all of our employees for their hard work and dedication,” said Jill Handley, director of human resources.
