Pam Ziegler of Olpe is giving her youngest daughter all the credit for a $10,000 win in the Kansas Lottery.
Ziegler’s daughter, Jaxlyn, talked her mother into buying a couple of instant scratch tickets while they were at Dillons grocery store, 902 E. 12th Ave., in Emporia, according to information from Lottery headquarters in Topeka.
“We were having a garage sale and the place we were at didn’t have a restroom, so we stopped at a grocery store to use the bathroom,” Ziegler explained. “While we were there, Jaxlyn asked if we could buy a couple of lottery tickets. I told her we could, so she helped me pick out a $1 game and a $2 game.”
After returning to the garage sale, Jaxlyn helped her mom scratch the tickets.
“We won $2 on the $2 game we bought,” said Ziegler. “Once we were finished with the garage sale, Jaxlyn was very insistent in cashing in the $2 ticket. To make her happy, we went back to the grocery store and she helped me pick out two $1 tickets. ...
“Jaxlyn thought the Double Doubler game looked cool, so I bought one.”
To everyone’s surprise, one of the $1 games they purchased was a $10,000 winning ticket.
“I’m glad she picked that game,” Ziegler said. “When she turns 18, I’m going to have her buy a Powerball ticket. With her luck, she might just win.”
Ziegler and her husband Rocky, who have been married 19 years, have three children, Jordan, Jaxlyn and Kason. They planned to use some of their prize money for a mini vacation before school starts.
