Palin has acquitted herself

Monday, August 10, 2009

SARAH PALIN HAS become a national lightning rod. Media outlets of all stripes have joined the feeding frenzy. Pundits and comedians have weighed in. Most of the opinion has been, to put it delicately, decidedly negative.

David Letterman, late night folk hero/comedian, joked about Palin’s 14-year-old daughter being “knocked up” during the seventh inning stretch at Yankee Stadium. Some bloggers claimed that Trig Palin, the Palin’s developmentally disabled son, wasn’t Sarah’s child, but the illegitimate son of their daughter.

Maureen Dowd, Pulitzer Prize winner and plagiarizer-in-chief at the Gray Lady, is now dedicating columns, including a mock diary, to the former governor. Gail Collins, one of elite America’s intellectual giants, has also chimed in. Todd Purdum of Vanity Fair has picked up the hatchet.

Now even The Emporia Gazette, having smelled the blood, has jumped into the already shark-infested waters with the rest of the predators. In a recent editorial, titled “Sarah Palin Spreads Confusion,” Patrick Kelley opined, “Commenting on her resignation announcement is sort of like reading a 1,000-word essay written by an average fifth grader.”

What is it about Sarah Barracuda, anyway? The Gazette seems to believe she spreads confusion as if it were a 21st-century plague. It makes me wonder if there aren’t other scourges of humanity that we can hold her singlehandedly accountable for.

The common cold? The swine flu pandemic, perhaps? Global warming? 9-11? Has she polluted all of this nation’s rivers and streams? In some past incarnation was she the party responsible for spreading bubonic plague, smallpox, or leprosy?

If this is so, I say the media bloodletting should continue until the sins are atoned for and the gods of the airwaves and newsrooms are appeased. If laying her on some public altar in the manner of the ancients and gutting her like a sockeye salmon will do, then by all means, “Let’s do it!” The only caution I can recommend is that the one who picks up the first sacrificial knife had better be without sin.

One of the things that often comes with the bloodletting is the clichés.

“If you can’t stand the heat, Sarah, get out of the kitchen.”

“You brought this on yourself.”

“Whaddya expect, politics ain’t beanbag.”

The more I read and hear them, the more I’m reminded of a cliché that actually fits. In one scene of Clint Eastwood’s classic western “Unforgiven,” a young gunslinger who calls himself the Frisco Kid has just gunned down his first man. As he sits contemplating his dark deed, he rationalizes as he takes a swig of rotgut whiskey. “Well, he had it comin’ to him.” He passes the bottle to William Munny, played by Eastwood. Munny gulps deeply from the bottle, wipes his mouth and snarls in a gravelly voice, “We all got it comin’ to us, Kid.”

Now that’s a cliché Sarah Palin’s detractors would do well to ponder.

What is it that bothers so many people about her? Some say it’s because she didn’t get the proper education. I mean, anyone should know that community college in Alaska and the five years it took her to get a bachelor’s degree in journalism certify her as an idiot.

Anyone worth his intellect should know that a lower 48 education is far superior, particularly if it’s from an elite institution. Never mind that many of them have become indoctrination factories, owned and operated by petty little men and women who amuse themselves by cavorting around in frocked robes and mortar boards. Never mind that the Wharton School, Stanford and other citadels of American learning and integrity are sending morally bankrupt graduates into the business world faster than the regulators can keep up with them.

Could it be her pedigree? Is she too much the commoner? After all, government is for the elite among us. Shouldn’t politics solely be the realm of the lawyer, the citizen emeritus, the blue-ribbon community benefactor or the well-connected business person?

God forbid that a commoner, a vulgar one at that, gains a foothold in the halls of power. Don’t give her an inch or she’s liable to take a mile. Could you imagine what might happen if she were to actually succeed. Why, the next thing you know, uppity garbage collectors, cops on the beat, firefighters, factory workers, waiters, waitresses and other assorted riff-raff might start believing they could do the same thing, And, we couldn’t have that, could we?

Then there’s the big elephant in the room — Trig. Could it be that a lot of this vitriol stems from Sarah Palin’s decision to bring a Down’s syndrome child to full term? Trig Palin is alive and kicking and that doesn’t fit the mold of the enlightened. Here in the 21st century that’s got to be the functional equivalent of blasphemy.

The list of grievances against Sarah Palin is probably endless, and each grievance is deemed to be rational, enlightened, heartfelt and full of the milk of human kindness. It may be closer to the truth to say that they’re all about hate covered by a cloak of self-assumed respectability.

Where will Sarah Palin be in 2012? In 2016? In 2020? I don’t know and I’m not sure if it really matters in the grand media machinations, anyway. I’m assuming I’ll be around in 2012 for The Gazette to inform or enlighten me, but I’m not so sure about 2016 or 2020. By then I’ll be pushing the outer limits of the actuarial tables or daisies.

I do suspect, however, that, to this point, Alaska’s first lady has acquitted herself well. She’s matched wits with the high and mighty and at least held her own. In fact, I think she’s done at least as well as the average fifth grader.

I’m not sure I can say the same thing about her critics.

I don't understand what you're getting at here. Too much fluff and cliche.

Is this some kind of defense of Sarah Palin? You're defending a quitter?

A real woman, a real go-getter, a real hero of the people would have stayed the course and remained in the governor's office to finish out her term. By quitting, she let down the people of Alaska who believed enough in her to vote for her. Quitting is not good governance. And she was considered vice-president material?

To the reader who commented, "She is kinda of like a fish out of water, humerous and sad at the same time": Before you jump on the bandwagon of people criticizing Sarah Palin as uneducated, ignorant, or just plain stupid, you would do well to learn how to spell. It's "humorous," not "humerous." And yes, it might be cute and casual sounding to say, "kinda' like," which would be a contraction of "kind of like," itself a colloquialism, but "kinda of like" would have to mean "kind of of like" which is, well, some might say uneducated, ignorant, or just plain stupid. It was probably just a typo. But if I give you the benefit of the doubt, you might be so generous as to give Sarah Palin a bit of credit. After all, she has successfully run the state of Alaska! And you have done exactly what?

This is commentary from BizzyBlog.com

Sarah Palin’s right, as usual — Also at Hot Air, this time in the Green Room from Legal Insurrection (bolds are mine) –

(Palin’s) critics, however, didn’t take the time to find out to what Palin was referring when she used the term ‘level of productivity in society’ as being the basis for determining access to medical care. If the critics, who hold themselves in the highest of intellectual esteem, had bothered to do something other than react, they would have realized that the approach to health care to which Palin was referring was none other than that espoused by key Obama health care adviser Dr. Ezekial Emanuel (brother of Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel).

…. Put together the concepts of prognosis and age (as bases for determining whether someone is worthy of care), and Dr. Emanuel’s proposal reasonably could be construed as advocating the withholding of some level of medical treatment (probably not basic care, but likely expensive advanced care) to a baby born with Down Syndrome. You may not like this implication, but it is Dr. Emanuel’s implication not Palin’s.

It is obvious that this writer is a Palin supporter. I have also heard a few (not many) liberals comment that she has "held her own" while she is interviewed or engaged in public speaking, but I have to disagree with that assessment. I find her to be poorly informed and she seems to have failed to do her homework. I don't hate her, but am glad she wasn't elected, as I think we need intelligent people in government who have done their homework on the important issues we face together. What I find most upsetting is her tendancy to divide rather than unite people. I found her comments like "real Americans" to be offensive and pandering to the far right.

Grammar police? LOL! This is in an informal blog; people here quite often do not use proper grammar. We won't know how successful she was as governor because she did not finish her term, and I can tell you, from what I saw Alaska was not doing so well at all when she resigned. The state gets more earmarks than any other and when the price of oil fell things up North went south.

John Edwards Exposers Catch Sarah Palin's Adultery.

While still married to her husband Todd, Sarah had and extramarital affair with Todd's former business partner, Brad Hanson, according to the National Enquirer. The Enquirer is the same paper that caught politico John Edwards cheating.

SARAH PALIN LOVER REVEALED!

In a world exclusive The NATIONAL ENQUIRER names GOP VP Candidate Sarah Palin's secret lover!

No less than three members of the man's family including one by sworn affidavit have claimed that Sarah Palin engaged in an extramarital affair with husband Todd’s former business partner, Brad Hanson.

Sarah Palin's silence on affair deafening
Lack of threats and insults from Palin speaks volumes

For someone who's responded with rage and venom to an endless stream of ethics complaints and any other perceived slight, Sarah Palin's silence about a reported affair she had speaks volumes.

Sarah Palin Must Disclose Gifts, Bribes, Secret Emails.

The State of Alaska has ordered quitter Sarah Palin, no longer governor with any power to intimidate state investigators, to fully report all gifts, discounts, emails made doing state business through private email accounts.

Alaska tells Palin she must disclose discounts, gifts

In one lingering issue, the Alaska Public Offices Commission has refused Palin's request to keep secret the discounts that come from her husband's Arctic Cat sponsorship. APOC also said Palin needs to disclose all the gifts she received last year, rejecting her interpretation that she doesn't need to until after she gets around to actually opening the gifts.

Palin has told APOC "there are boxes of unopened mail at this point, even mail that was delivered in 2008."

Palin's gone, but her e-mail and gift issues live on
AFTERMATH: Yahoo use and discounts are among leftover topics.

I will say one thing about Palin, before she was a VP candidate she was a very effective governor. She had bi partisan support with that came the ability to effect change in Alaska, this was her strong suit and what put her on the map. When she was tapped as the VP candidate she went off the reservation towards the right end of the spectrum and lost all her support, thus negating everything she had accomplished and burning bridges. Now people only see her as a far right loon, which she may or may not have been from the start. Either way the bridges are burnt she has made her bed, but based on the lack of thought put into her recent comments I am content to believe she is willing to sleep in said bed.

PS. I read the new healthcare bill, single spaced it is around 450 pages, and not near the leviathan people make it out to be, and if I can do it and know what she said is wrong, then surely she has the time now to have had someone explain it to her. There are a lot better places to attack this legislation than where she did.

More to the point, journalists criticizing Palin need have no fear of the same treatment, for three reasons.

They're journalists and not politicians.

They use correct grammar and she does not.

And unlike the journalists, the woman simply does not know what she is talking about, from getting foreign policy experience from proximity to Russia without ever visiting, to "real America," to honoring the troops by quitting her job, to "death panels."

Her education, money, jobs, and decision to bear Trig have nothing to do with it, and we don't want to throw dirt on her or mock her children. We just want to make sure she never governs us.

Her style of ignorant, divisive fear-mongering is trying to make the Republican party into a new Know Nothing Party, and it won't be good for the party or the nation if she succeeds.

Great article Phil Dillon...and, tbluma, I agree with you. How hypocritical to call Sarah Palin a quitter, when the Governor of Kansas, up and left the state of Kansas to go to Washington.
I don't remember hearing about the Alaskans complaining about her being a "quitter"..for stepping down as Governor of Alaska, or about our Governor being a "quitter." Maybe we should mind our own business about Alaska.
It takes a lot of b*lls to criticize Sarah Palin, and her speeches, when we have a President that can't order lunch without a teleprompter. We all saw last week, with Prof. Gates, how well Obama does without having scripted words.

This man is President!!!!.....He was a senator for just months before he was nominated, but he still kept his senate seat, and collected his senate salary, until he was elected President......and, he voted "present" most of the time, while in the senate...because he couldn't commit to a yes or no..(I guess that's another case of not having notes and a teleprompter! )
Sarah Palin introduced her family, with all their issues, to the world, and made no excuses for anything, when she ran for Vice President. How many of you could do that?
President Obama didn't do that..He said his family was "off limits." Everyone respected that...but, then I guess that's because he doesn't have anything to hide, or be ashamed of in his past.

So now....she's not in political office...and you still go after her. Could it be that you are afraid she just might run for political office?...Well, I guess I can understand that..because, you should worry...she could win.! ...Yeah, sure, ya betcha! :-)

Sounds familiar......

Funny how the studies show (I've posted the link in the past) that conservatives are more likely to read news from differing viewpoints - liberals are more likely to only get their news from sources that support their viewpoint only.

"People with stronger party affiliation, conservative political views, and greater interest in politics proved more likely to click on articles with opposing views, according to the Ohio State study.
….....Among the political blog readers, a similar trend emerged in which “liberals read almost exclusively liberal blogs, but conservatives tend to read both,” Davis said."

Now what was that you said about being easier than having to think and come to your own conclusions?

Anyone unfamiliar with these boards will find that many people who are most likely less intelligent than Sarah Palin, [goodoleboy, biscuitboy, create], like to pretend otherwise. That is something you will find with Liberals. They feel as though the "fact" that they are "open" to so many things like abortion, god is not real, man-made global warming is real, etc that they are smarter than everyone else.

For instance, the same people who bash Sarah Palin for everything tend to forget a lot of the very stupid things that Obama has said. Sarah would have been crucified for some of the things Obama has said. I won't go into them as they have been stated on here several times by open_eyes but goodoleboy, biscuitboy, and create know what they are even though they choose to ignore them.

As I've said before, I'd have no problem with people criticising Sarah if they applied the same standards to Obama. This is something they refuse to do so I will continue to call them out on it. Just once I'd like to hear them say that he isn't qualified to be president, and I'm not talking about his birth certificate or lack thereof, I'm talking about his lack of experience.

under_score,

Thank you so much for proving to everyone here what I have been saying all along, you do your kind oh so well and only serve to further alienate others like you into extinction, and now to dissect what you said for everyone's entertainment.

"Anyone unfamiliar with these boards will find that many people who are most likely less intelligent than Sarah Palin, [goodoleboy, biscuitboy, create], like to pretend otherwise. That is something you will find with Liberals. They feel as though the "fact" that they are "open" to so many things like abortion, god is not real, man-made global warming is real, etc that they are smarter than everyone else."

Calling the others and myself you listed liberal simply because you do not have the ability to comprehend others that can think in 3 dimensions is pretty funny, if it was not so pathetic. I and the others you have mentioned time and time again have embraced principles on both sides of the spectrum. Its funny you mention God and abortion in such close context, it’s very telling as to why you wish to force your beliefs on others. Global warming is something I hope you are right on, even though science says otherwise, I’d be exuberantly happy to be wrong and apologize on that one. And finally, if IQ was the deciding factor in placing people in society all our problems would be solved right? We all choose different paths, the problem is that people such as Palin chose poorly, and while that is their right, it also opens them up to criticism, you know? Free speech and all?

"For instance, the same people who bash Sarah Palin for everything tend to forget a lot of the very stupid things that Obama has said. Sarah would have been crucified for some of the things Obama has said. I won't go into them as they have been stated on here several times by open_eyes but goodoleboy, biscuitboy, and create know what they are even though they choose to ignore them."

Open_eyes, like all of us, has been wrong at times, and last I checked this article was about Sarah Palin, not about Obama, if you feel the need to compare and contrast so badly, then by all means write start a thread or write an editorial instead of hijacking threads.

"Someone on here said, I think it was goodoleboy or biscuitboy, that it's too early to judge Obama as president. How long did you give Sarah Palin prior to judging her?"

Sarah Palin quit, but she also was in office almost 3 times longer than Obama has been. It IS too early to judge Obama, even the Fox News people can agree on this, again you comparisons have no merit and are unfounded.

Welcome back under_score, your comedy was sorely missed

Anyway back to the story. Did everyone have sweet dreams about throwing dirt clods at Palin and her children? Could you hear her scream as they hit her hands as she protected Trig's little handicapped temple from the deadly blows? Or was it one of those silent dreams where it was all in slow motion and surreal? Hey, either way I bet it made you wake up with a big grin. Right?

I consider it a compliment to be grouped with biscuitboy and goodoleboy, two who consistently offer solid, level-headed thinking based on fact not conjured up notions. I always thought we three were more moderate thinkers than any one side of the range of thought. You'll have to read more carefully.

I can't help but think back to the McCain town hall meeting during the campaign when that woman stood up to say that Obama was a Muslim. He could have allowed her idea to stand and just move on, but no, instead, he corrected her and told her firmly that she was wrong. I gained immediate respect for him as a result.

Regarding my views on god as related to abortion, as usual you've put 2 and 2 together and came up with 5.

I don't think anyone could argue the warming trend on the earth, what people argue is man-made global warming. Two very different things. Also, if you look at the past you will find various warming and cooling trends. Was man responsible for the exit from the last ice age? How many tons of carbons were those cave men pumping into the atmosphere?

I know you would love to sit around and bash on Palin without me bringing up your unqualified pick for President but it ain't gonna happen. Especially when it comes to the way that Palin has been treated by the media. Events don't happen in a vacuum and it is perfectly fair to compare and contrast the way the Democratic media handles Republicans like Palin and Bush with how they treat Obama.

I don't give a crap what Fox News says. I can judge Obama on what he has done so far and on what he has said he intends to do. And I say they are the wrong way to go.

I joined the forum because I do have opinions about certain things, and enjoy the debate with people that have intelligent opinions...whether they agree with me or not....
I am a registered independent, and did not have an easy time making my decision on how to vote in this election.
I was not sure of Sarah Palin, when she was first introduced as a VP candidate by John McCain, but after listening to her,for quite a while, I decided that I liked her..not just as a private person, but as a political candidate, I have decided to support her in both categories...(unless, or until, I see or hear some other reason to change my mind).
However, I have been reading the posts on this forum by some of the regulars..and, I am disgusted!!.. and, crapinsack you put the final nail in the coffin for me and this forum....
Some of the posts are filthy, disgusting, vile, and insulting, to me...as a woman, and I'm done. I can only hope some of you are not my neighbors, or acquaintences, or even people I do business with.
Crapinsack.. I am ashamed to say it, but I did see about 5 minutes of the disgusting Joan Rivers filthy roast the other night, and, was embarrased watching it....I did not see what was said about Sarah Palins daughter, but I promise you had I seen it, I would not have laughed about it, or posted it on the forum, for others to have a good chuckle over.
and...seriouslyfolks, I don't really know how to take you sometimes..I don't know if you are serious or joking, but your little dream remarks, whether to be funny or serious, make me not want to admit I am part of the Gazette forum.

Am I taking this personally?...Well maybe, because I am a woman, that has worked all my life, raised children, who are adults with kids of their own, and, a husband, and sons that served in the Military, and are proud of it....
I care about my country enough to fight for it, and do what I can to make it better...even if that means just speaking out....Yes, I am for free speech, but, some of you try to hide your classless, filthy remarks in sexist, partisan, intelligently written (?)posts.
Had you written the same kind of things about Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, or their children...I would have said the same thing.
There's only a few people on this forum that post to offend..but, the sad part is you have a forum to express yourself in such disturbing, insulting ways.

Looking at the dates and timestamps on these forums, I think maybe some of you should take some time to get sleep...Posting 24/7 can play with your straight thinking sometime.

"When you always agree with others, that becomes your prison. Choose your jailers carefully."

When you give up the good fight, you're lost. Now take a deep breath, let some wind into your sails, and tack. If not, you'll be stuck in the doldrums, never moving. Who wants that?

You know what, gabby? There was a time in this country when a woman's opinion wasn't worth snot. Nobody cared what she thought or if she even thought at all. Unfortunately, even some women believed they weren't capable of thought outside of changing diapers and making soup. Wanna go back to that? You would if you give up here.

Of course you don't agree with everything you read on this forum. If you did, I'd question your sanity.

Now c'mon, get those sails filled.

I've said it before, and to repeat myself, I truly do enjoy reading the points of view of goodoleboy, biscuitboy, create, and a few others who pretty consistently have a point of view from "the left". As my point of view is pretty consistently from "the right". Just because I disagree doesn't mean that an opposing argument can't be level-headed and well-put (well, they're not ALWAYS, but then again, neither are mine - LOL) but NOBODY is right 100% of the time, certainly not me either (and there are others as well I respect and argue with, can't name them all, apologize for that). Just as I appreciate the input from those who's thinking aligns more with mine. I certainly don't want anyone to "give up the good fight", because once either side just rolls over and plays dead..... well, we know what Washington does once they have the opposition sufficiently marginalized. We've seen it in the last administration, and we're seeing it now.

gabby & create, I think we've seen in this country, according to many organizations.... the true measure of a successful, smart, independent woman all comes down to one thing and one thing only. Are you pro-life or pro-choice? (The following sarcastic comment has already been deleted by the writer of this same blog).

It is interesting that the first 2 posts to this article were in direct opposition. It would have been interesting to wait and see how long it took for the first poster to post an agreement with the article, instead of a disagreement with the first 2 posters..... :)

What did all that I just said mean? Not really sure..... just some idle musings........ :)

And I ask you simple cause and effect comon sense, do you really think that the billions of people that exist upon this earth will not have negative effects upon if we continue our current path? I am well aware of the history of our planet, it has fascinated me since I was a child. What you fail to realize is that comparing what we are doing to history is not possible, because never before have a species existed on this planet that has had the effect that humans have. Sure there are trends, but what about what WE as humans contribute to that equation? It’s a completely logical conclusion that we will impact our envoirnment, the only question is how bad will the consequences be.

Palin continually brings it on herself, she made the comments about “death panels” this disproved at factcheck.org. She riles people up with her comments then tells them to behave at town halls after she has done so. Hypocrit? I expected a lot more intelligent comments from her after she resigned, seems like she still fails to grasp what is needed to be taken seriously. I have said it before and I’ll say it again, it’s the same with kids growing up, ignore those that bother you and they will eventually lose interest. It’s the same with her and the media, if she could follow that mantra and not be such a drama queen the media would have backed off her long ago, yet she just fans the flames. Hijacking a thread and trying to make it about Obama instead of defending Palin makes you look desperate, and it only serves to strengthen those that you disagree with.

“I don't give a crap what Fox News says. I can judge Obama on what he has done so far and on what he has said he intends to do. And I say they are the wrong way to go.”

And just what has he really done so far? Pass a stimulous that is still in its infancy? There is not a whole lot to judge currently, any rationale person knows that any policy changes and or decisions will take a great deal of time to filter down, this country is not a sports car, its an aircraft carrier. Your so concerned with what “he intends to do” that it is clouding your judgement. It is just not practical in any, way, shape, or form to quantify a president’s peformance 8 months in, especially with what he inherited. It’s not excuses, it’s not bias, that is just the plain facts of it.

the second stimulus was a waste since they have only used about 10% of it.
you're right goodoldboy we should give B.O. more time to dig a deeper hole. thank you Mr.president bush for getting the country on track before B.O. took over, and for arranging to bring the military out of Iraq before you left office. Oo! pres.bush- did I thank you for getting the government spending on the road to hell so B.O. could have a good start and an excuse to spend us into literal oblivion so that our kids and their kids and their kids can learn responsibility as they grow older and pay off the debts that B.O. and his pals in congress ran up for them. I'll leave it for them to thank this admininstration themselves when they start paying taxes.

Obama continually makes an ass out of himself as well. Does the media attack him for it or let him get by? By the way, I'm fine with them letting him get by with making the mistakes that he's made. He is actually being treated the way Sarah Palin should be treated and how President Bush should have been treated.

Obama doesn't ignore the media, so far he's attacked or had someone else attack anyone in the media that disagrees with him. Again, why is Palin held to a different standard? Is it because she is white? A woman? Pro-life? What is it? You can be truthful with us, we're all friends here. :)

He passed a stimulus that hasn't stimulated anything that was sold as a quick fix to the economy. So far as I can tell the only thing that has had any positive effect on the economy is the bank bailout from last year. And that will have long term consequences on inflation and/or taxes. Taxes may not bother you but I'm sick and tired of paying 1/3 of my wages to people like you with not so much as a thank you.

You're welcome though, your internet access probably came out of my pocket.

What he intends to do is pretty damn important to me. What should I do, wait for him to implement his plans prior to taking a stand? What sense does that make?

She would have made a GREAT VP for Obama: (Steve_Corbin, borrowing your post to put it over here if you don't mind - from the link I posted on the "Obama: Super Groovy" thread... ):

Howard Stern's man interviewing voters in Harlem about who they would vote for, and if they were really informed of the issues.

"The question was asked What do you think of Obamas pick of Sarah Palin as vice president?" "Do you think it was a good pick, could she do the job?"

Witout hesitation, the three answered he did a great job picking her as his vice-president running mate.

(Guess Jesus told them so during the NASCAR race, right?)

The article on earmarks was just written a few months too early, goodoleboy. Bridges to nowhere are suddenly all the rage. Nowadays it is referred to as "stimulating the economy". You need to get with the times! :)

No, Maverick was that other guy who went from being an American war hero to being hated by most. But seriously this is about letting out your hatred for Sarah Palin the alleged human being. Perhaps if we let it out it will no longer consume us.

And yeah, Alaska has the highest per-capita earmarks, but not the highest total. Maybe it has something to do with it being nearly 2 1/2 times the physical size of the next largest state, being less developed currently than other states, and all that oil - there's just so much acreage to build bridges in!!!!! LOL

I just got back from my afternoon workout. I had some time to think about Gabby's post and she is right. I have at times been over the top and intentionally inconsiderate to others. It's easy to do when you are anonymous and you don't have to look people in the eyes. Hopefully I have not been as offensive to others as crackinsack and YY4U have been on this thread. If I have I truly apologize.

crackinsack, I won't out you. But emporiagazette should really fix the issue with their send user private message option. It errors out and gives a lot of information away to someone with the skill set to use it for the wrong purposes.

I find that I keep coming back here not to be informed but to argue with the same people about the same thing day in and day out. Both sides are set in their beliefs and certainly have legitimate reasons for believing what they do. I will no longer be visiting or posting on this site.

I do believe that the people on this forum are generally good people. seriously and open_eyes, I have enjoyed siding with you in the "discussions" on here and I will miss them in large part due to you guys' observations.

create, I don't really believe that Obama was not born in Hawaii. I did enjoy getting a rise out of people for something that was so far fetched. I know how irritated I got from a lot of the things that were said about Bush and Cheney so I thought I'd give you guys some of your own medicine.

Take care all and good luck.

p.s. I wouldn't expect to hear back from bizquikboy any time soon either.

Aw, shucks, under_score, all of us here get a little hot under the collar at times. I know I still do, but I also can look back and (hopefully) say that I've learned to respect others and keep it contained better than I did when I first started posting here. And I think that pretty much everyone reaches, sooner or later, that level of "enlightenment" (with the possible exception of crack, but I'm still hoping she eventually catches sight of herself in a mirror someday. But doubtful).

Also, as I've often said, at times it may seem like just the same old (no age discrimination-type statements implied) posters here wrangling back and forth, but...... more read this (I know) than what post here. Sure, I love to debate (obviously) - bit I also enjoy simply "putting some info out there" since much of our media seems to pick and choose what THEY deem as "newsworthy" - a particular pet peeve of mine in our current times. I always enjoyed Paul Harvey's "The Rest Of The Story", and always had fun filling in the regularly-missing blanks for Pat's 1/2 articles :) I suspect many of us debating here actually DO learn something we didn't consider, weren't aware of, or grudgingly agree with - we just don't like to publicly admit it here (me included) - LOL

It's an information/disinformation war out there. As the joke goes, the soldiers stormed the last stronghold of the enemy, and once breaking in, demanded that they "hand over the Internet", or something like that..... LOL

I think this could be an attempt at humor, Palin quits, now under_score quits? The skeptic in me thinks its a ploy, if not then via con dios, blogs are pretty harmless, as long as you don't take them too seriously( and we all have at times), but they are what are, and one thing is a given. We will never all agree=)

You have a good point yourself biscuitboy, but do recall that I casted stones NEITHER for or against Mrs. Palin. Just making a point on how some folks judge others, when truly we cannot judge, none of us can or should without proper justification. We do it quite often, myself included. We just need to be mindful of it.

Would declining an interview make you a quitter?

I remember some "if you can't stand the heat, get out of the oven" remarks concerning this........ it looks like the "heat" is getting to quite a few politicians at these town hall meetings...... their response seems to be more like don't allow anyone in the kitchen that might turn up the heat..... :)

Open_eyes,

To quote one of my favorite television characters, Sergeant Schultz, "I know nothing!"

Back to Sarah Palin, I found this in my news stuff this morning. Her reference to the proposed health care bill as having a "death panel" is sheer poppycock. Also, the article contains quite a number of good Q and A's that dispell popular misinformation about the bill.
