Dan Riggs, employee at the Tallgrass National Prairie Preserve, is the first recipient of a service award from the preserve. Riggs was provided with a set of spurs inlayed with a National Prairie Preserve medallion.
Riggs started at the preserve as a volunteer in 1995 when land was under the care of the National Park Trust. When the National Park Trust expanded their visitor services to include guided bus tours, he was hired to lead the bus tour groups into the prairie.
In 2000, Riggs was hired as a seasonal park ranger for the National Park Service. He has remained in that capacity. Riggs plans on remaining at the preserve to volunteer. He will be a roving trail volunteer.
