The Flint Hills Community Health Center will celebrate National Health Care Center week next week along with health care centers around the country.
Flint Hills Community Health Center will celebrate National Health Care Center Week with an open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 11 in Jones Conference Room, 420 W. 15th Ave.
The theme of the week is “Where Access and Quality Care Begin.” The week nationally highlights the role health care centers play for about 18 million people in America. Health care centers provide a health care home for people and primary and preventative care.
The Flint Hills Community Health Center served 8,598 patients in the area last year with a total of 26,879 visits. This number is increasing due to layoffs and cutbacks during hard economic times.
“Health center patients pay on an income-based sliding fee scale,” according to a press release from Flint Hills Community Health Center. “No one is turned away, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.”
“The care we offer is as affordable as possible,” said Liz Conrade, chief executive officer of the health center. “It’s culturally competent and in these challenging times it is available to the insured and uninsured alike. That’s what we mean when we talk about access. We provide high-quality services that emphasize primary care and this week is about letting people know that.”
