Friday, August 7, 2009

EDITOR’S NOTE: Each Friday, The Gazette salutes those who make Emporia and the surrounding area a better place to live and work. The following folks deserve a pat on the back ...

• Mike Strickland who was selected to take over the Emporia High softball team. He replaces Ray Owens who retired after eight seasons.

• Beau Welch who was selected to be Emporia High’s new baseball coach. He has been an assistant for the program for three years.

• Troy Ross who drove his 1969 Nova to a win in the Pro ET class at the Heartland Park dragstrip. This was his third win of the year.

• Emporia Main Street, which hosted training for Main Street organizations across the state. The event brought 115 people to town.

• Ashish Patel who reopened the gas station at 2900 Eaglecrest Drive. The Shell station will now be called Chief’s Corner.
