United Methodist Church garage sale; Back to school carnival

United Methodist Church Garage Sale

The First United Methodist Church is having a garage sale from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday.

Back to school carnival

A Back to School Carnival will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Americus United Methodist Church in Americus. There will be food, games, balloons, rides, baked goods and musical entertainment. All are welcome.

Pizza Hut United Way benefit

The Pizza Hut is offering 20 percent of a customer’s dine-in- carry-out or delivery purchase from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday to the Emporia United Way. The customer must present a fundraiser voucher to the server or delivery driver. Fundraiser donations are good on regular priced purchases only. There also is a 10 percent group discount, available upon request. For more information, call 342-0333.

Benefit yard sale

A benefit yard sale will be held, beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, at 2838 Sonora Drive. Items include a dryer, clothing, toys and miscellaneous items. The sale is being held by the family and friends of 4-year-old Joshua Berr, who is fighting cancer.

First Congregational Church rummage sale

The First Congregational Church will have a Rummage Sale from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 14 and 7 to 11 a.m. Aug. 15 at the church.

Diaper and baby wipes drive

The Kansas Children’s Service League is having a diaper and baby wipes drive for their Health Families clients in Emporia. They are accepting donations from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the office at 402 Commercial St., Suite 123 and also from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 29 in front of Walmart. The Healthy Families program provides weekly home visits to new and expectant parents. The League promotes “positive parenting, enhanced child health and development and informs clients about community resources in this area so they can become self-sufficient parents,” stated the news release. Many of the clients are searching for jobs and/or are attending school and cannot afford necessary baby items, such as diapers. For more information, call Kelly Clark at 340-0408.
