WE WANTED TO take a moment and talk about employee-employer loyalty.

In this ever changing world we live in, where people are outsourced, or laid off in the name of the almighty dollar, where people will quit or change jobs over 5 cents per hour, in this time of “what’s in it for me” attitudes and “I’m entitled to this job” beliefs, it’s nice to see it is not always that way.

Our mother, Karen Kopfman, has worked for Drs. Richard and Brenton Bennett for 17 years and will be retiring on Friday of this week on her birthday. When mom announced before her birthday last year that she would be retiring in one year (that’s right, she gave over one year’s notice.), Drs. Bennett and Bennett decided to make it a great last year for our mom.

Every month (at the doctors’ expense) they have had an event for our mother and the whole staff of their dental practice at 909 Commercial St. They have done everything from going Arkansas digging for diamonds and Minneapolis, Minn., to the Mall of America. From going out to Mom’s favorite restaurants to scrapbooking, (a favorite hobby) to watching “Brian’s Song” (Mom’s favorite movie) to “The Antique Road Show” antique shopping (another favorite pastime) and much, much more.

We have told this to many people and all have the same reaction, “Wow. Or “I’ve never heard of anything like that before.” even “No way.

It’s nice to know that there are still employers that value their employees and reward them for loyalty. It’s also nice to see someone working for and being loyal to an employer for so long.

We want to say congratulations, Mom, on your retirement. We hope you enjoy it and happy birthday.

We especially want the community of Emporia to know what wonderful people we have in Dr. Richard and Dr. Brenton Bennett. We should be proud to have two men of such high values, compassion, character and kindness, taking care of our dental needs. If they would go to this extent of kindness and care for our mother just think what they will do for you and your family for years to come.

Thank you, Richard and Brenton Bennett (and staff). Wow!

Best Wishes Karen! The Bennetts are such nice folks, I wish everyone appreciated their hard working, long time employees. I was not at all surprised by their acts of kindness.
